Diabetes Symptoms
There are 2 common type of diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2. Most of the symptoms for Type 1 and Type 2 are similar. There is too much glucose in blood and not in the cells of your body. In Type 1 insulin producing cells are destroyed and therefore there is less or no insulin in the body. Type 2 is caused when body cell’s become resistant to insulin that is being produced. In both cases cells are not getting enough insulin which it is supposed to get and thus leading to diabetes. There is another type of diabetic which is called Gestational diabetes which is seen in pregnant women. It generally disappears when the women give birth to the baby.
Some of the common diabetes symptoms are Frequent Urination, thirst, loss of weight, numbness in legs or hands or feet, etc. Frequent Urination is caused because of various reasons. Urination occurs when the amount of glucose in blood is lot. If insulin is not present , kidney’s cannot filter glucose back to the blood. At this time they try to draw extra water out of the blood to dilute the glucose. This causes the bladder to be full resulting in frequent urination.
We will be having frequent urination if the body pulls extra water our of the blood. The more a person urinates the more he / she will get dehydrated and feel the need to drink more water to replace the water. Losing weight is a common symptom in Type 1. Pancreas stops producing insulin due to possible viral attack. At this time, body will look for energy source because the cells are not getting glucose, thus resulting in break down of muscle tissue and fat. In Type 2 insulin resistance is increased thus weight loss is not noticeable. The foods we eat are converted into glucose and reach the cells. If insulin is not there glucose cannot reach the cells, thus the cells starve resulting in weakness or fatigue. At times numbness or tingling happens because high glucose in the blood damages the nerve system. This symptom is called Neuropathy.
Other symptoms are blurred vision, skin that is itchy or dry, infections or cut takes longer time than usual. These are because of the high glucose levels in body.
